How to Hang Wardrobe Doors

A wardrobe adds classic appeal to bedrooms, guest rooms and even offices. Whether you build it yourself or simply want to repair a broken wardrobe, putting the doors on yourself will save you both time and money. You need only 15 minutes and a few pieces of inexpensive hardware from your local store. This article is written to guide you through installation, so keep it handy while you work to save even more time.

  1. First: What you need

Assess the situation. If you are building a wardrobe from scratch, you will need doors, at least four hinges, screws and a screwdriver. To repair a broken wardrobe, you will also need all of those things. A power screwdriver is highly recommended, especially when working with hardwood pieces.

  2. Second: Go shopping

If you do not already have everything you need in your house or garage, go shopping and get it! Purchase hinges, screws and the like from your local hardware store or Wal-Mart. If you can not find hinges in a color that matches your wardrobe, paint them before installation. If you really want to save, consider salvaging what you need from other furniture.

  3. Third: Install the doors

When you get home and have all of your hardware procured, use the screws to attach the hinges to the inside of your wardrobe cabinet. Then attach the doors to the hinges. At this point, a helper is useful in making certain the wardrobe doors are aligned with the cabinet. Make sure the doors close securely before firmly screwing in the hinges..
